2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe: Road Test and Review
Posted on November 7, 2024
Before revealing our review after test driving the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, let's talk a bit about the vehicle itself, in order to become more familiar with this midsize SUV.
Three Trims for the 4xe
Since its introduction to the Canadian market over a year ago, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV is available in three trims, each more relevant than the last:
- Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
- Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Altitude
- Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Anniversary Edition
While the 4xe trim offers several features including its renowned 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, the Altitude trim adds among other things leather seats, 18-inch aluminum wheels, LED fog lights, second-row heated seats, and much more.
However, it is the Anniversary Edition trim that holds the most pleasant surprises. This variant adds to the previous two front tow hooks, an auto-dimming interior mirror with a digital display, twin chrome exhaust tips, heated and ventilated front seats, a surround-view camera system, a premium front bumper, and much more.
In short, the three trims of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offer a good choice depending on your tastes and budget. By the way, there is a Jeep Cherokee 4xe Altitude for sale at Concept Magog in Estrie at the unbeatable price of $59,995!
Efficient Powertrains
Instead of a 3.6-liter V6 or a 5.7-liter V8, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful engine in the 2024 Grand Cherokee lineup.
A lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 17.3 kWh is located under the vehicle floor, providing a range of 42 km.
During our test, we also appreciated that the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe was equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD), which is a very important feature for our winters safety wise.
Finally, the maximum towing capacity is 6,000 lbs or 2,722 kg.
A Spacious Hybrid SUV
On the day of our road test, we quickly noticed that the SUV has a good size. Here are the vehicle’s dimensions:
- Wheelbase: 2,964 mm
- Length: 4,915 mm
- Width: 1,969 mm
- Height: 1,801 mm
The size of the vehicle is impressive, and its cabin is spacious. Elegance and comfort are predominant. We also noticed that the vehicle offers very good visibility and excellent sound proofing while driving. Moreover, the first two rows are exceptionally spacious and the trunk of the 5-seater model is substantial.
Regarding this, the cargo volume ranges from 1,068 L to 2,005 L when the seats are folded down.
A great Test Drive!
We started our road test in the streets of Magog in all-electric mode. Jeep was absolutely right as we covered the 42 km without any difficulty.
We were also impressed by the smooth ride delivered by our vehicle. It was quiet, and its regenerative braking was very effective, especially when we were driving towards Lake Memphremagog.
Then, on Highway 10 in gasoline mode, we recorded an average fuel consumption of 9.7 L/100 km. As for its driving dynamics and accelerations, both were excellent.
Inside the vehicle, comfort reigned supreme, whereas the instrument panel displayed all the most relevant information. As for the infotainment system and its touchscreen, it showed all its modernity and user-friendliness at first glance.
Our journey did not end there. We wanted to push further and test the vehicle on less marked and more rugged trails. With its driving modes, we observed that the Jeep Cherokee 4xe can easily overcome obstacles and perform as well as, if not better than, the entire range of gasoline-powered Grand Cherokees.
With its air suspension doing a great job and its high ground clearance, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe demonstrates that it can take you on adventures, even on less defined trails.
At the end of our road test, there is no doubt that Jeep’s plug-in hybrid vehicle possesses undeniable off-road capabilities. It impresses with its agility, adventurous spirit, and ability to accomplish great feats.
Beyond these performances, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is ultra-comfortable, versatile, and full of cofindence.
Additionally, as it is surprisingly fuel efficient (10.0 L/100 km - combined consumption), it allows you to travel without draining your wallet at the pump.
Our Verdict
At the end of our journey, which, let's remember, allowed us to test the electric mode in the city, the gasoline mode on the highway, and the off-road capabilities of the vehicle on more rugged trails, it is clear that the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe deserves high praise.
This is a vehicle that impresses with its feats and its low fuel consumption. It offers a very comfortable and technologically advanced cabin, plus space for all occupants with luggage. The 2024 4xe from Jeep is the plug-in hybrid vehicle you need. You can rely on it day in day out.
